ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
The core program at YLC is a holistic yet rigorous academic program for children in pre-K through 12th grade. A YLC education incorporates fun, interactive, hands-on activities and educational field trips that bring lessons “to life,” inspire students to want to learn, and enable them to appreciate the relevance of their studies to their current and future lives. With small teacher-student ratios (pre-K: 1 –10, elementary: 1 – 15, high school: 1 – 12), YLC is able to address individual academic needs and focus on genuine learning rather than simply passing students to the next grade. Underachievers receive special support, including one-on-one tutoring; specific academic deficiencies are identified early and addressed promptly.
Curricula are adapted from well-respected sources and customized to meet the needs of the YLC student population. Student self-esteem is developed through an innovative performing arts program that includes an annual performance before an audience of over 1000 spectators. Students’ nutritional needs are met through a full breakfast and lunch.
YLC emphasizes the following subject areas and basic skills, depending on grade level:
- Reading
